Abstract:

Plasma wakefield acceleration offers a promising route to compact, high-energy particle accelerators for future colliders and advanced light sources. In plasma accelerators, intense laser pulses or highenergy charged particle beams drive large-amplitude plasma waves that sustain extremely strong longitudinal electric fields. These accelerating fields can exceed those achievable in conventional radiofrequency cavities by several orders of magnitude, enabling substantial energy gains over much shorter distances. This talk will introduce the fundamental principles of plasma-based acceleration, including the generation of plasma wakefields and the acceleration of electron beams to high energies. The betatron radiation, an intrinsic by-product of plasma accelerators and a promising compact X-ray source, will also be discussed. An overview of major international research efforts and leading plasma accelerator facilities will be presented, with particular emphasis on the AWAKE experiment at CERN, which is pioneering proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration as a pathway toward future highenergy accelerators.

Abstract:

This study examines the vacuum performance of ultra-low-emittance storage rings utilizing activated non-evaporable getter coatings, with a particular focus on the Iranian Light Source Facility. By employing Monte Carlo simulations using MolFlow+ and SynRad+, the research assesses pressure distributions, photon-stimulated desorption, and conditioning behaviors under various coating and activation scenarios. The simulations integrate photon-stimulated desorption data from both vacuum fired, activated NEG coatings and not vacuum fired, activated NEG coatings, applying this data to chambers that are either fully coated or partially uncoated. Key findings reveal that vacuum performance and conditioning efficiency are significantly enhanced when using the photon-stimulated desorption data from vacuum fired, activated NEG coatings. Moreover, the simulation results show a reasonable correlation with real-world data from the MAX IV synchrotron, thereby validating the reliability of the model.

Abstract:

Frustrated quantum spin systems provide an ideal platform for exploring the interplay between strong correlations, topology, and quantum thermodynamics. In this talk, I will present our theoretical study of the antiferromagnetic spin-1 Heisenberg diamond chain in an external magnetic field. Combining analytical and numerical techniques with an effective lattice-gas description, we map the low-energy quantum problem onto a classical monomer-dimer model, enabling a complete analysis of the ground-state phase diagram and low-temperature thermodynamics. I will discuss the emergence of unconventional quantum phases, intermediate magnetization plateaus, and anomalies in susceptibility, entropy, and specific heat. Finally, I will show that field-induced quantum phase transitions significantly enhance the magnetocaloric effect, highlighting the potential of this frustrated spin system for low-temperature refrigeration and quantum thermal machines.

Abstract:

Radiation emitted by relativistic charged particles carries detailed information about beam properties and forms the basis of many modern accelerator diagnostics. This presentation introduces the physical principles underlying radiation-based techniques, including synchrotron, transition, diffraction, and Cherenkov radiation, and discusses how these mechanisms are exploited for non-invasive measurements of transverse beam profiles and ultrashort electron bunches. The general framework for longitudinal bunch reconstruction from coherent radiation spectra is reviewed, including the concepts of form factors, spectral measurements, and phase retrieval. Finally, the presentation discusses the design considerations, selection criteria, and current status of radiation-based beam diagnostics being developed for the Iranian Light Source Facility (ILSF).

Abstract:

This talk introduces a novel approach to constrain neutrinoless double-beta decay nuclear matrix elements using high-energy heavy-ion collisions. Focusing on the Neodymium-to-Samarium transition, the study couples Bayesian nuclear structure analysis with simulations of ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions. Strong correlations are found between the matrix element and collective flow observables of the quark-gluon plasma, such as elliptic flow and transverse momentum fluctuations. These observables are highly sensitive to nuclear quadrupole deformation and exhibit Pearson coefficients comparable to traditional low-energy probes. The required collider data can be collected at the LHC in short dedicated runs with upcoming detector upgrades. Systematic uncertainties can be further suppressed through isobar ratio measurements. This work establishes high-energy collisions as a complementary platform for benchmarking matrix element calculations. The approach offers a concrete pathway to reduce the dominant theoretical uncertainty in neutrinoless double-beta decay searches through interdisciplinary synergy.

Abstract:

This talk is based on Lost in Math: How Beauty Leads Physics Astray (2018) by theoretical physicist Sabine Hossenfelder. The book presents a critical examination of one of the central assumptions underlying modern theoretical physics: the belief that mathematical beauty can serve as a reliable guide to physical truth. Over the past several decades, many of the most influential research programs in particle physics—including supersymmetry, extra dimensions, and string theory—have been motivated not only by empirical considerations but also by aesthetic principles such as symmetry, simplicity, unification, and naturalness. Despite their mathematical elegance, experimental searches, particularly at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), have so far failed to provide evidence supporting these ideas. The presentation begins with a historical overview of the role of beauty in science, tracing its influence from Kepler and Newton to Dirac and Einstein. It then examines the concept of naturalness and its significance in physics beyond the Standard Model, with particular emphasis on supersymmetry as a case study. The implications of recent experimental results for these theoretical frameworks are discussed. Finally, the talk evaluates Hossenfelder’s critique of contemporary theoretical physics and explores broader methodological questions: Can aesthetic criteria legitimately guide scientific discovery? Has particle physics entered a period of conceptual stagnation? What lessons can be drawn from the tension between mathematical elegance and empirical evidence? The aim of this presentation is to stimulate discussion about the relationship between mathematics, beauty, and physical reality, and to reconsider the principles that guide the search for fundamental laws of nature.

Abstract:

A search for pairs of light neutral pseudoscalar bosons (A) resulting from the decay of a Higgs boson is performed. The search is conducted using LHC proton-proton collision data at √s = 13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector in 2016-2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb^{-1}. The A boson decays into a highly collimated electron-positron pair. A novel multivariate algorithm using tracks and calorimeter information is developed to identify these distinctive signatures, and events are selected with two such merged electron-positron pairs. No significant excess above the standard model background predictions is observed. Upper limits on the branching fraction for H → AA → 4e are set at 95% confidence level, for masses between 10 and 100 MeV and proper decay lengths below 100 μm, reaching branching fraction sensitivities as low as 10^{-5}. This is the first search for Higgs boson decays to four electrons via light pseudoscalars at the LHC. It significantly improves the experimental sensitivity to axionlike particles with masses below 100 MeV.
